Mobile-First Indexing Is Here… Are you ready?
Even if you have the best desktop-based site in the world, if your mobile version is not up to snuff, Google no longer cares how good your desktop site is. You must have an excellent mobile web design in place, or your current rankings are about to be crushed.
How do I know?
I just got this email from Google about Mobile-First Indexing:
What We Know Based on This Email
- Mobile-first indexing has been talked about and looming nearer for some time now, and it appears that Google is holding true to their word of implementing it
- Google is rolling this change out on a site-by-site basis (or more likely groups of sites), so even if this hasn’t hit your site yet, it will.
- If you are enjoying good rankings in Google and you don’t have a great mobile web design, you rankings will soon tank.
How Do I Know If I Have A Good Mobile Web Design?
Have you visited your website on a mobile device?
If not, now is the time to try it out.
Does the site look as good as your desktop version?
Do you have to pinch and zoom to be able to read the text?
Do the columns of your website stack, or do they remain side-by-side, but just appear smaller?
Can you access your site’s navigation on your mobile device?
If you had to answer no to any of these questions, it may be time for a redesign on your website. It is vital to stay on top of this new change, and if you think you can just ignore it think again.
Search ranking is vital to the success of your business. If you are enjoy a steady stream of site visitors now, image the revenue that is being generated just because you are ranking well on Google for search terms that are important to your business.
Now image that instead of being on page 1, Google knocks you back to page 4 because the mobile version of your site is sub-par. All of the revenue and phone calls your business was getting before is now gone, because most searchers don’t ever reach page 4.
What Can I Do To Be Ready For Mobile-First Indexing?
If you are seeing good rankings on Google now, odds are that you have great content on your site.
This makes it easy to get a redesign that is mobile-friendly. Your great content just needs to be moved to a platform such as WordPress with the Divi theme by Elegant Themes.
This theme is mobile-responsive out of the box (for the most part; some CSS coding may still be required for excellent responsiveness). If you are interested in checking out Divi, you can do so through our affiliate link (we get a commission and you get a great tool to start your mobile-responsive site).
If you don’t have the time to be away from your business to redesign your site, we here at Rehash Your Site would love to help you with your mobile web development project. We can rebuild your site to be mobile-responsive and make sure all of your SEO is up to code so that you have a great chance of ranking well.
